Dear Parents / Guardians,
Please review the following important information regarding the Learn to Skate (LTS) sessions at the Avon Old Farms rink (AOF).
Schedule: Sunday Oct 17, 2010 920 - 1020 am
Saturday Oct 23, 2010 10:20 - 11:20 am
Sunday Oct 24, 2010 1030 - 1130 am
Note: Equipment fitting for Skates, Gloves, and Helmet, included in the $125 Learn to Skate fee will be Saturday, Sept 25th & Sunday, Sept 26th at the Avon Old Farms ice rink from 8am to 11am; equipment will be available at the first LTS session
Registration: Select Register Online from the left menu and follow the two-step process of registering with USA Hockey and then registering with Avon Hockey.
Equipment: If your child has hockey equipment, wear it. If you don’t, roller blade knee and elbow pads are good. Any additional padding around the hips and butt is good, too. Cold is not much of an issue so don’t bundle them up. Remember helmet, gloves, and skates, which again, are included for you to keep with the $125 LTS Registration fee.
Skates:GET TO THE RINK EARLY, especially the first day! It takes time to get skates distributed and laced up.
Entrance and Parking:AOF is very good to our program in allowing us to rent the rink. Because students and faculty are on campus at all times, for safety purposes, please use the entrance located by the baseball fields/Fisher Meadows. This is the only entrance and exit to be used for the rink. You can park in the lots on either side of the rink.
Want to Help?if you are interested in getting on the ice, here are the requirements.
Skating ability – You must be able to skate reasonably well and be capable of holding and picking a child up.
Registration - You must register with USA Hockey and bring your confirmation number to the rink. Add'l forms will be available at the rink to complete.
Helmet - Must have a helmet….and wear it!
Be there at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17th for a quick CoachesMeeting where you will be taught the method we employ for teaching the kids.
What to Expect:Our objective is to first and foremost have the kids enjoy their experience and in whatever form that takes. Next, is to have them be able to get up, stand and move forward on skates. No chairs by day three!
We encourage you to bring your cameras and capture the moment your child masters these new skills. We are happy to help you with any questions and welcome your input about our program. See you on the 17th of October!
